LaVern Richards was born in Huntsville, Alabama, the eldest of five siblings. His childhood included moves across the country, attending elementary school in Utah, middle school in Tennessee, high school in Alabama, and college in Virginia.

In 1995, LaVern moved to Dallas to attend law school at SMU and has called the Dallas–Fort Worth area home ever since.

LaVern was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 1998 and began his career practicing at high-volume personal injury firms, gaining extensive litigation experience.

In 2004, he opened his own law practice where he represented thousands of clients across Texas in personal injury, family law, and civil matters.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, LaVern transitioned into insurance defense work where he quickly advanced into a supervisory role.

In 2026, Vern founded Richards Mediation and Legal Consultants P.L.L.C. to provide mediation and legal services with a focus on accessibility, personal service, and reasonable costs.

LaVern enjoys spending time with his wife, Tiffany, and their two teenagers. The family can often be found at the Burleson Farmers Market where Tiffany sells handmade pet accessories and connects with friends throughout the metroplex.
